Dechmont: Bangour Hospital
This is an alternative “day out” and more for the explorers as it is a former Asylum.
It was also used as a War Hospital. It is an eerie but interesting place! The hospital has been abandoned for a number of years but you are free to walk the grounds (but not inside the buildings) and it is used regularly by dog walkers. The derelict village is about four miles in size. It can’t really be explained in words so check out the pictures and video below for an idea of what to expect…
Near Dechmont, West Lothian. See Map below for exact location. Directions: From Edinburgh go on the M8 and come off at junction 3. Go to the top of Livingston Road and take the first left at the roundabout onto the A89. You will go past Dechmont and the hospital is on a turn off on the right. There are no signs for it anymore so it is easy to miss the turn off for it. You just park at the entrance as you can’t drive into the actual Village Hospital.
